Obituary for James Raymond Otteman

James Raymond Otteman
James R. Otteman, 68, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Canandaigua, NY and Framingham, died with his family by his side on Friday, June 7, 2019 after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Mary Lou (McMongale) Otteman with whom he shared 45 years.

James was born and raised in Canandaigua, New York, son of Raymond Otteman and Joan (Kellogg) Schneider. He graduated high school at Canandaigua Academy and later attended Boston University and Emerson College. While in Boston, in 1973, he met the woman who captured his heart, Mary. They were married one year later.

James worked in retail and spent the majority of his career at Sears working as an appliance salesman from 1995 until his retirement in 2018.

James enjoyed spending time outdoors and could often be seen golfing, fishing, or tending to his garden, where he grew giant pumpkins. He was an avid reader and loved spending time sitting by the pool with a good spy novel. One of his favorite spots to enjoy this activity was at their cottage in Maine.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, four children, Matthew and his wife Amanda, Joshua, Adam, and Sarah, two granddaughters, Madelyn and Penelope, and many nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Otteman.

Services for James will be held in private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Advocates, 1881 Worcester Road, Framingham, MA 01701.
