Leo S.  Buckley MD
Leo S. Buckley, M.D., 90, of Shrewsbury died Monday, December 12, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Leo was born in Boston, son of the late Timothy and Margaret (Donohue) Buckley. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston in 1944 and joined the United States Navy the next day, serving with the greatest generation during W.W. II. After being discharged from the service he entered Boston College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. He continued on to Boston College School of Social Work. After working for a few years as a social worker, Leo was called to become a Physician and went on to Georgetown for his Medical Degree in 1961 and finishing up with a fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 1967.

Dr. Buckley had been an attending physician at Saint Vincent Hospital from 1967 until 1988. He then worked at Fallon Clinic as a physician until he retired in 1995.

When Leo had down time he enjoyed spending time with his family at their Cape house in Sandwich and loved sailing, but his favorite pastime was traveling the world with the love of his life, Pauline.

He leaves his best friend and wife of 52 years, Pauline (Hurley) Buckley; his devoted children, Brian D. Buckley and his wife Sandra of Worcester; and Mary K. Courtemanche and her husband Robert of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Bridget and Ryan Buckley of Worcester and Andrew, Anna and Allison Courtemanche of Shrewsbury; also, survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter J. Buckley.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Leo’s family on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 4-7 pm in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St, Shrewsbury. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Friday, December 16, 2016 with a Funeral Mass celebrated at 10 am at Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial with military honors will be private in Saint Peter’s Cemetery, Sandwich, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in PA.
