Obituary for Pauline C. McIlvaine (Schur)

Pauline C. McIlvaine (Schur)
Pauline C. (Schur) McIlvaine, 95, died at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday June 30, 2019.

Pauline was born and raised in Auburn, daughter of the late Karl and Carrie (Volbrecht) Schur. She was voted class valedictorian and graduated from Auburn High School in 1941. After high school and during World War II, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Apprentice and served for almost two years. After her honorable discharge, she entered the work force as a bank teller and later worked as secretary for the Auburn Health Department. She met the love of her life, Wilson A. McIlvaine, and the two were married shortly after their courtship began.

Throughout her life, Pauline maintained her civil duty as treasurer for both the Auburn Historical Society and the Auxiliary of the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post #279 in Auburn. She took great pride in these positions because she cared deeply for her hometown and its’ residents.

In addition to her husband Wilson, Pauline leaves her three children, Paul McIlvaine of Oxford, Joan Courcelle of Auburn, and Karl “Fess” McIlvaine of Scottsdale, AZ; four grandchildren, Karrie, Keith, Elizabeth, and Brent; six great-grandchildren, Chase, Charles, James, Margaret, Colin, and Keigan; and five nieces. Pauline was predeceased by her sisters, Emily Krieger and Gretchen Moorey.

Services will be held privately at the request of Pauline and her family, with the assistance of the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Pauline’s memory by donating to the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post #279, c/o Savers Bank, 38 Auburn St., Auburn, MA 01501.
